But a recurring question arises: <strong>are they really reliable?<\/strong>   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From our experience in Alarmas Catalunya, where we protect from small warehouses to logistic complexes, we can affirm that yes, they are. Reliability depends, to a large extent, on <strong>choosing the right technology, installing it correctly and keeping it well calibrated<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this article we will discuss how these detectors work, what types exist, which ones are most reliable in the industry and what mistakes to avoid. In addition, I will share our real-world experience, from the field, with hundreds of installations in demanding industries. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do motion detectors work? Technical keys <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A motion detector is nothing more than a device designed to detect the presence or physical <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/alarmascatalunya.com\/en\/how-to-protect-an-industrial-building\/\">detect presence or physical activity in a given area, triggering an automated response<\/a><\/strong>It is a device designed to detect presence or physical activity in a given area, triggering an automated response: from a notification to the control panel to the activation of cameras, lights or alarms.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In industry, these sensors have very diverse functions:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Security against intruders outside working hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access supervision in restricted areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Process automation in production lines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presence control in large spaces without direct supervision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most common ones work by means of:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/alarmascatalunya.com\/en\/security-detectors\/motion-detector\/\">Passive infrared (PIR)<\/a>:<\/strong> detects temperature changes caused by human presence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Microwaves:<\/strong> emit high-frequency waves and detect their rebound when they encounter movement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ultrasound:<\/strong> similar to microwaves, but at a different frequency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/alarmascatalunya.com\/en\/alarm-services\/video-analytics\/\">Video analytics (AI)<\/a>:<\/strong> cameras with real-time processing that analyze motion, shape and behavioral patterns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Operation may seem simple, but in industrial environments, sensors must be resistant to dust, humidity, light variations and electromagnetic noise. That is why it is key to choose sensors <strong>approved for industrial use<\/strong>, not adapted residential solutions. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thermal, volumetric and microwave detectors: which one to choose?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no single ideal detector for all industries. Why?
